The College Odyssey

College isn’t just a destination—It’s a journey.

But it doesn’t come with a map!

Until Now!

The College Odyssey Framework

This framework and mapping breaks down the college admissions process into 6 easy-to-understand stages, making the process simpler and easier to manage for students and families.

Your College Odyssey Starts Here

New Horizons: When middle school and first-year high school students (and their families) begin scanning their horizon and thinking about their future, developing successful college & career readiness skills and mindsets is critical to college success.

Pathfinding: Planning and preparing for college involves considering student academics, mindset, agency, and support needs, compatible environments, and affordability so students and their families can best identify their ideal path forward.

Discovery: Developing an effective college list isn’t about listing nearby schools or your favorite sports teams. It involves researching schools that align well with specific criteria, including affordability, compatible learning environments, college performance stats, student appeal, ROI, etc. and discovering those that best meet your needs and resonate with you.

Launch: Once the college list is finalized, it’s time to launch those applications, including brainstorming and crafting compelling essays, completing the FAFSA, tracking deadlines, etc. all to help position the student as an appealing candidate that is likely to succeed at the given school.

Crossroads: Once you receive your acceptances and financial aid offers, it’s time to evaluate and compare them to identify the best options, including the “True Net Costs” each year, estimated time-to graduation (few actually graduate in 4 years), and student needs so families can make a calm, clear, and confident decision about where to attend.

New Frontiers: It doesn’t end with an acceptance! College is an entirely new frontier, and students and their families need to plan and prepare for success in a new environment. Close to 1/3 of all students take more than 10 years to graduate or never do. It’s important to consider what supports students need in order to effectively navigate and thrive amidst the inevitable challenges of college life.
